Painting 2024
The competition Maľba – Cena Nadácie VÚB za maliarske dielo pre mladých umelcov (Painting – the VUB Foundation Award for young artists) has fulfilled its mission – to promote Slovakia´s most gifted professional painters and raise public awareness of visual art – for nineteen years.
We would like to invite you to the exhibition of finalists of this year´s competition Maľba (Painting), which is on view in the Nedbalka Gallery from October 4th to November 10th, 2024.
The competition is open to professional visual artists under 35 years of age. Painters enter the competition individually with a specific work created within the last three years. A portfolio with examples of their work is part of the application.
The works are evaluated by an international jury whose composition changes each year. Members of the jury are active artists, curators, gallerists, art historians and art theorists. The international composition of the jury guarantees an unencumbered view of the paintings submitted and guarantees impartiality and open discussion.
The evaluation of the works is divided into two rounds. In the first round, the jury determines the final twenty, which is formed by adding up the points they have awarded to the works. The selected paintings are further judged in situ, i.e. directly at the competition exhibition, and the result is a joint consensus.
